Zep Cleansters Sampling

I wouldn't say I love to clean. It is more a love/hate relationship. I hate to clean but I love a clean house.  So I jumped at the chance to try Zep cleaning products. Crowdtap sent me 5 total sample sizes of Zep Quick Clean Disinfectant and Zep All-Around Oxy Cleaner and Degreaser for free.

Lets start with the Zep Quick Clean Disinfectant. I like this product because it cleans, deodorizes, and disinfects. It worked rather well in my bathroom and it is great to have it on hand with flu season trying to bust through my front door.

I really liked the Zep All Around Oxy Cleaner and Degreaser. To test it out I decided to try it on the one place in the kitchen that has been irritating me for a while. The exterior oven glass door. Some how the glass had gotten dirty inside between the layers of the door. Dismantling it to get to the glass was easy if not terrifying.  I kept imagining the glass falling and breaking. And then having to explain to my husband that it gotten broken because it was dirty and I had to test some cleaner. Anyway, no broken glass and the Zep cleaner worked well.

Here is the before:
Here is the after:
All in all, I have had a great experience with this product and I would recommend. I am definitely going to have to buy a full size bottle before these little bottles run out though, because I want a spray trigger. I am too lazy to use a pump spray. :)

DIY Type: 50+ Typographic Stencils for Decorating, Crafting, and Gifting Review

I am a big fan of typography. There is just something great about words being used as art. It is an art form that looks so simple, yet an artist can spend hours making the piece. Typography catches the eye and holds it. With that being said, you can understand why when I saw  DIY Type: 50+ Typographic Stencils for Decorating, Crafting, and Gifting by Dana Tanamachi on the Blogging for Books site I just had to have it to review.

The description of this book looked like I was in for some fun. After reading about the author and visiting her site,  I was expecting a book full of fun projects and amazing artwork. I was sorely disappointed.

I wince at having to call this a book. This "book" contains two sets of stencils. One big alphabet and one small alphabet. All capital letters. It also contains a few little designs. Even the cover is actually a stencil. All the little swirls seen are stencils. The book part of this book contains about 12 pages, with at least half of that being pictures. The projects in this book are basic with little instruction.

This "book" is little more than a stencil set and it is not a great stencil set either. You have to cut the stencils apart. For the big stencils it is 2 to a page. For the smaller stencils, 4 to a page. Luckily for me. I have a nice Fiskars paper cutter that made quick work of the task. If you are stuck having to cut them apart with scissors, I pity you. The stencils are not see-through. Solid white card stockish material. I also feel like the smaller size stencils have too much material to each side making it rather difficult to just lay them side by side to form a word because the letters will be really spaced out.  The projects seem like something you might find on one of those tear-off pads hanging on the shelves at Hobby Lobby.

In my honest opinion, if you are interested in trying some typography projects you would be better off just buying a set of stencils. It would definitely be cheaper and probably of better quality.  For projects or ideas, Pinterest would be a bigger help than this book.

So in short, save your money and skip this book.

Doctor Who: The Crawling Terror Review

Yes, I am addicted to Doctor Who.  I've already read and reviewed two Doctor Who books so I thought I might as well finished off the trio.  I recently received The Crawling Terror by Mike Tucker featuring the Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald.

The Crawling Terror brings the 12th Doctor and Clara to the town of Ringstone where large mutant bugs are terrorizing the citizens. Not only does the Doctor show up to investigate, but so do the military.  Can the Doctor figure out what is going on and save the town before the military decides to take matter into their own hands? Read and find out.

I was unsure about reading this book because I hate spiders, but I gave in because I love Doctor Who.  The beginning of this book creeps me out. Big nasty spiders. *shudder*  Once I got past the creep out factor I really enjoyed this book. I liked how the plot didn't just stay in the present. They bounced to the past too.  It had a really great story line and it totally felt like it could be a Doctor Who episode, which is what I think really makes it part of the Whoverse.

I am still getting used to the 12th Doctor but in the books he makes a pretty good Doctor.  Definitely different than the other incarnations like the 10th and 11th but still entertaining.

If you like Doctor Who, this is a wonderful read and I recommend it.

Crowdtap Sampling: Advil-Film Coated

Ah the Fall.  The time of year for pumpkins, trick or treating, and headaches.  The constant weather changing in the south always give me a headache so I was thrilled to try Advil Film-Coated Ibuprofen courtesy of Crowdtap.

I was originally sent 8 samples but in the picture I've posted you'll only see 6. Why is that? Because not ten minutes after they arrived my sister had a horrible headache. So I saved the day with Advil.  And later that night I had some body pains so I took some Advil as well.  It worked great. I'm not a loyal Tylenol user like some people. Tylenol is good for some aches and pains, but Advil is better for inflammation and annoying female things like painful periods. So there is room for both on my shelf.

Doctor Who: The Blood Cell by James Goss Review

Welcome to The Prison. The Doctor finds himself as a prisoner in the most secure prison in space.  When the killing starts it is up to the Doctor to save the day...with a sonic spoon?

This book was great. It has it all...humor (the Doctor constantly escaping from his cell), mystery (what is killing in the prison?), action, adventure, and a bit of eww. All the stuff you can typically expect from Doctor Who.  I read this book in one day. It was that good, although it is rather short at 252 pages.

If you are new to the Whoverse, I wouldn't recommend this book as an introduction to Doctor Who because you will be completely lost on who the Doctor and Clara are. If you are a fan of Doctor Who, read all you want. It is a wonderful book featuring the new 12th Doctor portrayed by Peter Capaldi. He is different than the other doctors but still good. So check out this book and the other Doctor Who novels today. You won't regret it.

#SkintimateHappyLegs Hosted Party

Once again Crowdtap has made me a happy tapper.  I was chosen to host a Skintimate Happy Legs Hosted Party.  Just because summer is over doesn't mean toes and legs have to hide.

I received free from Crowdtap: Post shave lotion, salt scrub, toe dividers (or as I like to call them, the evil toe torturers), Skintimate Shave Gel (yay!), Schick Quatro disposable razors (awesome), and a bottle of Sinful Colors nailpolish.

I love Skintimate Shave Gel. I always get a smooth shave. Pair it with a Schick razor and you have one of the best shaves ever. Skintimate Shave Gel comes in Raspberry Rain, Strawberry Tangerine Twist, Luscious Kiwi Splash, and Tropical Splash. There is also skin therapy types as well.

And while this party isn't about Sinful Colors Nailpolish, I have to give a small shout out because this polish rocks! See the beautiful array of colors I had to offer attendees of the party.

Such great products were used that day!

Review: Silhouette by Justin Richards

Books are great. What can make a book better? Adding Doctor Who to it, of course.  From the great people at Blogging for Books I was given the chance to read Doctor Who: Silhouette by Justin Richards.  Having never read a Doctor Who book I was hoping it would be a decent read. I was not disappointed. It was like a written episode of Doctor Who.

Reading Silhouette felt like Doctor Who had been crossed with a whodunit novel, which for me was great. The 12th Doctor, Clara, Victorian England. What more do you need?  I had a good time reading this book. It was an easy relaxing read.  I would recommend this book to anyone who is a Doctor Who fan.
For more info on the book go here: Silhouette
Author Info: Justin Richards
Without giving away the whole story, you have the Doctor, Clara, and a few acquaintances trying to track down who is behind a few bizarre murders. Lots of Whovian fun.

I only have two negatives to say about this book. One is there were a few typos that annoyed me. Second, if you don't know anything about the Whoverse, you might be confused while reading this. There really isn't any back story given about the main characters so if you don't know who they are, what a Tardis is or a sonic screw driver, this probably won't be the book for you.

Skintimate Shave Gel

Summer is just about over but that doesn't mean your legs can't be silky smooth.  I keep my legs smooth and moisturized with Skintimate Shave Gel.  This is a product I tend to use a lot anyway but recently I was given the chance by Crowdtap to try Skintimate's Mandarin Burst Moisturizing Shave Gel for free.  Of course I jumped at the chance to get into this sampling because I love to try new scents from products I already use.

The upsides to this product is that it works really well.  The lather is amazing.  I grew up having to use horrible shaving cream. There is not enough words to describe how much I detest shaving cream and how much better shaving gel is.  I got a smooth shave with no nicks or irritation when I used this shave gel.  It was another great shave gel from Skintimate.

The only thing I did not like about this product was the scent.  Don't get me wrong, it didn't smell awful at all. It was a very nice scent...if you like that kind of smell in your bath and body products.  I am just a bit sick of feminine products smell like fruit or overly thick flowers.  If you do like fruity smelling products this one is for you.

*I was given the shave gel free from Crowdtap to try. The opinions in this post are mine and mine alone.  I was not paid to give this opinion*

Neutrogena Beach & Beauty Party

Kids are going back to school, the stores are already starting with holiday merchandise, and my favorite shows starting to release last season's episodes on dvd. The summer feels like it gets shorter every year.  But its not over yet, and its party time thanks to Crowdtap and Neutrogena. I got selected to host a Neutrogena Beach & Beauty Party.  I received for free from Crowdtap a variety of Neutrogena products to try and to share.

Included in this fun party pack was:

Neutrogena's Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes.  I have to admit I am guilty of trying them already before letting any family or friends sample them. I love face cleaning wipes (or towelettes if we must be fancy). And these are great.

Next up is the Neutrogena's Professional Triple Repair Fortifying Shampoo and Conditioner. It is suppose to mend split ends, strength brittle hair and protect from breakage. It smells very nice and I'm sure one of my friends will love it.
Now we have what everyone needs during the summer.  Neutrogena's Beach Defense Water & Sun Barrier Lotion Sunscreen. Broad Spectrum SPF 70.  I'm going to make sure my sister tries this one. She is forever without sunscreen.  My only comment on this is that it doesn't smell like most sunscreens I've tried.

Neutrogena's MoistureShine Lip Soother with SPF 20 Sunscreen and Cooling Hydra Gel is up next. I tried a little (with an applicator, not by touch the container to my lips, I swear.) and it has an odd sensation on my lips. Must be the cooling gel. That would take some getting used to.

And finally is the Neutrogena Visibly Even Daily Moisturizer with Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Screen.  It contains essential soy that is suppose to help reduce blotchiness & the look of dark spots.

Oh there is a frisbee too.  It will be fun to play a game or two with friends and family...if I can ever get it away from the dog. She loves frisbees.

I got these products for free from Crowdtap.  The opinions in this blog are mine and mine alone.

The B.T.C. Old-Fashioned Grocery Cookbook review

I'm a Yankee by birth. Half Southern by blood.  This means I like clam chowder just as much as I do bbq ribs.  I eat apple pie yet I make a mean lemon ice box pie. I make northern potato salad but my corn bread is pure southern.  The point is I love food and I love learning how to cook food, whether it be northern or southern.  So when I was given the chance to receive the The B.T.C. Old-Fashioned Grocery Cookbook by Alexe Van Beuren with recipes by Dixie Grimes from Blogging for Books I jumped at the chance.

The B.T.C. Old-Fashioned Grocery Cookbook is written by some locals in Water Valley, Mississippi, which makes this  the perfect book for me to review because I live in a town about 50 miles from Water Valley.

This cookbook is full of delicious sounding, well presented recipes. You of course can find recipes for foods such as Cornbread dressing, tomato gravy, chocolate gravy, key lime pie, and chicken and dumplings. No southern cookbook is complete without them. You will also find tasty recipes for dishes such as Watermelon Salad with Feta and Artichoke & English Pea Au Gratin.  I'm dying to try the chocolate gravy recipe. Chocolate gravy is one of the best things I've ever found in the South.  Grew up hearing that you can't have stuff like ice cream for breakfast, then we move to Mississippi and learn that they eat chocolate gravy for breakfast. Yeah, that is what a kid wants to hear.

There are some great recipes in this book. Yes, you will find pecans, peppers, relish, etc used in quite a few recipes because that is how the South is.  Put a little bit of everything into a dish.  I plan to try out some of the recipes (husband is begging for the Key Lime Pie) but I will probably tweak them a bit because I do not put pickles, peppers, etc into my dishes.  All in all, I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to make some authentic yet modern Southern dishes.

Schick Hydro® 5 Groomer Sampling

I so rarely get to directly include my husband in campaigns that I get.  Usually he benefits from the stuff I get to try, but this time it was all him.  Crowdtap sent a free Schick Hydro 5 Groomer for my husband to try and I think this one is a winner.

The Schick Hydro 5 Groomer can shave, hydrate, edge, and trim all in one. It has a Power Trimmer and Adjustable Trim Comb with 3 adjustable settings so that you can trim to the length you want.  The razor cartridge has a hydrating gel reservoir and 5 blades for a ultra smooth shave. Of course this razor can use any Schick Hydro refills.

It is a great razor and did a great job on my husband's face.  I want to know where the female version of this is.

The Great American Slow Cooker Book

I like to cook. And to be honest, I like to eat.  What I don't enjoy is the clean up involved after having cooked a terrific meal.  So like so many people I know, I thought cooking in a crockpot would be a great idea. My grandmother gave me one a few years back. I used it a few times and then stuck in a cabinet. Typical I know.  Recently I've thought about dusting it off and putting it to use.  But what to make in it? That is why I decided to give The Great American Slow Cooker Book a try.

As a member of Blogging for Books, I am given a chance to read books and review them.  While thumbing through their selection I came across The Great American Slow Cooker Book by Bruce Weinstein and Mark Scarbrough.  I thought is was kismet. I wanted to use the crockpot and here was a book that promised "500 easy recipes for every day and every machine".  And that leads me to this review.

The book is quiet large with about 500 pages of recipes.  I like how the recipes are set up. Easy to understand and the charts that show how the recipes vary for different sized cookers is so helpful.  There are helpful tips and tidbits in the "Tester's Notes", "All-American Know-How" and "Ingredients Explained" sections after most of the recipes.  The book is immense and has recipes of every variety. From chicken to beans. From pork to puddings.  There is even a vegetarian section. Some of the recipes sound quite yummy while some of the recipes I wouldn't even fathom trying.

The book is great. My only problem with it is it didn't live up to my expectations.  With wording like "500 easy recipes for every day"  I was expecting simpler foods. I was expecting like crockpot potato soup and a few different varieties of easy macaroni and cheese.  Instead there are recipes like "Rabbit with whiskey and lima beans" and "osso buco with coffee and chiles". I wanted recipes that used ingredients that I always have on hand. Unfortunately that is not what this book contains. Don't get me wrong. This book has some amazing sounding recipes that most likely produce delicious food.  But not for me. I need simpler (and cheaper) foods.  There are a few breakfast/desserts that I'm going to try.

Would I recommend this book? Definitely. It was a well written book full of great recipes. Just not what I was looking for.

Snuggle Scent Boosters

All hail the Snuggle Scent Boosters!  Want your laundry smelling better and fresher for longer? Just throw in a Snuggle Scent Booster at the beginning of the wash and you are all set.  I don't generally use "scent boosting" products because I figure that is what the detergent, fabric softener, and fabric sheets are for; however, this product was decent.

So easy to use. Scent boosters is a little pouch that you throw in the washer, then load in your clothes.  That's it.  I had no problems with this product. It dissolved like it was suppose to. No residue on my clothes, no pouch stuck to my clothes or washer drum.  My clothes came out smelling great.  My husband hasn't even complained that they smell too strong, so it seems to be a nice scent but not overly so.

Snuggle Scent Boosters come in two scents: Lavender Joy and Blue Iris Bliss. I got to try the Lavender Joy. Very nice scent. I am quite curious as to what the other scent smells like. These are reported safe for use in standard and HE washers (though I can only say for certain that it worked well in my standard washer). The price for scent boosters is reasonable. At Walmart it is about $4 for a 26 count.  I would recommend this product. So go out and buy some today.

Venus Snap VoxBox

I was chosen to receive a wonderful VoxBox from Influenster recently. In this magical box was the Venus Snap with Embrace.

I have to admit when I first pulled the Venus Snap out of its package I scoffed at it. "How could something this small be comfortable to shave with?" I thought to myself.  I didn't think there was any way that the Snap was going to a good product to use. I felt like a giant holding it. The handle was so short.

Regardless of my reservations, I did try the Venus Snap. And you know what, I LOVE it. I've been a Shick user my whole life, but I may actually switch now to Venus products.  I know the Venus Snap is suppose to be a razor for "on the go" but the handle was so comfortable for me to hold. The razor with it's 5 "curve hugging blades" and "water activated ribbon of moisture" gave me a wonderfully smooth shaving without any nicks. No blood drawn at all. :) That is a win in my book.

I definitely recommend the Venus Snap with Embrace for anyone who wants a razor for on the go...or for anyone who just loves the mini size and comfort of the handle. Venus also offers other full size razors such as the Venus Embrace Sensitive for sensitive skin and the Venus & Olay to help moisturize the skin.

*I received the Venus Snap free from Influenster to try. I was not paid for the review and my opinions are my own*

Herbal Essences Body Wash Sampling

I love to try out different kinds of body washes so I was very excited to be chosen for the Crowdtap sponsored Herbal Essences Body Wash Sampling. As a participant of this sampling I was sent a free 1.2 FL OZ bottle of Herbal Essences Body Wash Hello Hydration with coconut extract.

I like Herbal Essences products, but I wasn't a big fan of this body wash because of the scent.  It lathered up nicely and my skin felt good after using this product, but the scent just wasn't for me.  Hello Hydration smells kind of sun tan lotion to me.  It must be the coconut (which I'm not a fan of).

Luckily Herbal Essences Body Wash comes in other scents for those that don't want their shower to smell like a day at the beach. The other scents are Body Burst (citrus scent), Happy Go Lather (rose scent),  Honey, I smell Good(infused with honey and apricot), and Totally Twisted (berry scented).

Herbal Essences Body Washes are available at various retailers including Walmart, so go pick up a bottle yourself and see how great they are.

Team Viva® Vantage* Sampling

Not all paper towels are created equal. I am a fan of Bounty which is why I was interested and glad to be pick for the Team Viva Vantage Sampling campaign from Crowdtap.  As a member of Crowdtap I was sent 4 rolls of Viva Vantage Paper Towels to try for free and to share with my family and friends.

This sample share came just in time because I have a new puppy named Molly.  Like most puppies Molly likes to make messes in the house.  So these paper towels were definitely put to the test.  They are quite absorbent. Miss Molly decided to move her water dish and spill water all over the floor. The Viva Vantage paper towels cleaned up the water pretty good.  My mom also spilled about 16 oz. of water on her kitchen table and she used them to clean up. Said they worked pretty good.

These paper towels scrub pretty good as well. They have a rough texture which makes cleaning up messes easy.  On the other hand the rough texture makes these paper towels a bad substitute for a napkin.  A bit too rough for mouth wiping.

All in all, these paper towels are pretty good. I will probably stick to using Bounty but I was quite impressed by Viva.

Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day

http://smiley360.com/2883914.cfm

As a member of Smiley360.com I was recently selected to try a Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Countertop Spray.  I was sent a full size bottle of Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day spray in the Lemon Verbana scent to try for free.

I am always interested in trying natural cleaning products because I hate the smell of harsh chemical sprays.  So when given the chance to try a Mrs. Meyer's product I jumped at it.  The cleaner cleans pretty good for a natural spray. And it certainly smells better than chemical sprays. I am not too fond of the scent but that is just because it is not a particular scent that I would choose for my kitchen. Others might enjoy it.

Luckily for me, Mrs. Meyer's sprays come in a variety of scents. These scents include Basil, Lavender, Geranium, Sunflower, Rosemary, Bluebell, Honeysuckle, and Radish (I am quite curious to how that would smell.)  At about $3.99 for a bottle, they are decently priced as well.

There are tons of other kinds of products available in this Clean Day line. Glass cleaner, dish soap, and surface wipes, to name a few.  So if you are looking for a great line of natural cleaning products you should try the Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day products.

Tone Body Wash and Bath

There are countless brands and scents of body wash out there. So many it can be hard to choose a favorite but not for me. My favorite brand of body wash is Tone, which is why I am so excited to be part of the BzzAgent Tone Body Wash and Bath Campaign.  As a participant in the campaign I was sent a free bottle of Tone's new Petal Soft with Pink Peony & Rose Oil body wash and some coupons.

I usually don't like flowery scents but this one is nice. Not too strong. My only complaint is that I don't think the scent lasted on my skin long enough after the shower. It lathers up great and makes my skin feel nice. This scent was a change from my usual tone scent which is Ocean Therapy with Deep Sea Extracts & Pearl Essence.  I like the bottle design because it is easy to grasp in the shower so I don't drop it often. :) I would definitely recommend this scent and the others.  I am so glad that I was chosen to try this product and will try the other scents as well.

The Tone moisturizing body washes are decently priced. They usually cost me about $3.50 at my local Walmart. The available scents are: Petal Soft with Pink Peony & Rose Oil, Ocean Therapy with Deep Sea Extracts & Pearl Essence, Mango Splash with Cocoa Butter, Daily Detox with White Clay & Pink Jasmine, Soothing Oatmeal with Shea Butter, and Fruit Peel with Alpha-Hydroxy Fruit Acids. Of course there are plenty of other great Tone products to buy as well.

Taco Bell Sauces Big Game Party

Remember the days when you had to go to Taco Bell, order some tacos inside and take as many taco sauce packets as possible without getting caught? Well Taco Bell caught on and now no one has to do that. You can go to the store now and buy all the sauce you want. Way more convenient than all those packets.

The only way taco night at my house gets better is when there is Taco Bell Sauce to go with the tacos.  I love Taco Bell sauces which is why I was thrilled when selected by Crowdtap to participate in the
Taco Bell Sauces Big Game Party.  Crowdtap sent me four bottles of Taco Bell to share with others and have an awesome night of yummy food.

The four bottles I was sent were Fire Sauce, Mild Sauce, Hot Sauce, and Verde Salsa.  The Mild Sauce is a staple in my house.  I always have like 2 bottles in the house at all times. But the others were new to me and the rest of the people who tried them. Fire sauce is right...that was hot. I had never heard of the Verde Salsa until I got into this campaign.  It was...different.  Not bad different though. It was actually quite tasty. My husband's opinion was it tasted "green". LoL.

I wanted to present the flavors as a taste testing type situation so I made some Tostito Scoops Taco samplers. Basically what I did was make my usual taco filling and put it into some Tostito Scoops. Topped with cheese, sour cream and Taco Bell Sauce. That way the flavors could be tried individually. It was great.

So if you love Taco Bell Sauce or just taco sauce, you should definitely try all these flavors today. They make taco night taste even better!!

Hershey’s Spread the Possibilities Holiday Sampling

I was quite excited to be chosen as one of the participants in the Hershey's Spread the Possibilities Holiday Sampling opportunity. As a lover of most things chocolate this is perfect for me.  As a participant I was mailed a free jar of Hershey's Spreads Chocolate with Hazelnut.

I am a big fan of the chocolate hazelnut spreads that seem to be trendy right now. I've tried the Jif version so I am so happy that I got to try the Hershey's version.  Chocolate hazelnut spread is an indulgence of mine. I love to have it on Ritz crackers or on a bagel. The Hershey's spread is delicious.

I happened to have both Jif and Hershey's chocolate hazelnut spread in the house, so I decided to look at the nutritional facts.  Hershey's seems to be the better of the two. With less calories, less fat, and no cholesterol, Hershey's Chocolate with Hazelnut appears to be a little less unhealthy than its competition.

I've been sick so I haven't tried the Hershey's spread on a lot of stuff, but oh I plan to.  There is a cookie I like to make called a Chocolate covered Ritz peanut butter cookie. Basically you stick peanut butter between two Ritz crackers and cover it in melted chocolate.  I have plans to make this cookie except instead of peanut butter I am going to use the Hershey's Spread.  It should be delicious and so tempting to not eat all of them at once.

This was one of the best sampling opportunities ever for me. I loved this product and will definitely be buying it once this jar is gone.  I also want to try the other flavors, which are plain chocolate and chocolate with almonds.  I recommend this product to anyone that loves chocolate. :)
